"Looking for a programmer,
offering a million dollar idea!"

This appeal laid the foundation for getbaff, since it led to the aquaintance of our founders Hendrik Gottschalk and Jan Owiesniak. At first glance both could not come from more varying backgrounds – Hendrik was working as a teacher while Jan, a programmer, was involved in the IT-world. However, a greater shared objective connected them: the joint vision of founding a business.

At first the priority was brainstorming – ideas were created, developed, overthrown and started evolving. The duo expanded: Matthias and Michael, the two video experts joined the team. And so, the four founded „Club 5000 UG“. Club 5000 was supposed to be the new charity, lifestyle and business club for urban Germans.

Though, as often in life, everything changed in an instant ...

Nobody would have ever thought that the 7. January 2018 was going to be such a monumental date for Hendrik, Jan, Michael and Matthias. The day started out unspectacularly – the team was having a meeting in order to plan and discuss the next steps for Club 5000. But then, there was lunch break. Jan showed everyone a 15 second clip: a soccer card transforming into a video via app.

This moment was enough to convince the team that Club 5000 was hence an idea from the past. Their new vision was born: Augmented Reality. The possibility of breathing life into pictures was more than a part of the Harry Potter World, but could actually be accomplished and realized without magic.

Four weeks after this life-changing lunch break, equipped with the beta version of their new project, Hendrik, Jan, Michael and Matthias were making their way to downtown Berlin.

Everyone was being baffled – thus the name! Nobody had seen this before: pictures that were coming alive through videos.

From then on our rollercoaster ride as a Start Up had really kicked off – our motto was and still is: “full steam ahead”. Jan spent day and night programming, Michael and Matthias were producing more and more video content while Hendrik was relentlessly working on their business plan. In addition, our team was growing: graphic designer Vicky Wrobel joint getbaff.

July 2018 was the month we started picking up speed. First of all, we worked on our formalities: Club 5000 UG was renamed into bedrocks UG and getbaff was ready for take-off. Shortly after we launched our first version onto Google Play & App Store. Now everyone was able to be baffled by our new technology. Also, the television channel Sat1 was noticing getbaff and gave us the chance to present our idea in front of a broad audience. Our rollercoaster ride was beginning to speed up. Moreover, our financial expert, Michael Bassler, became part of the getbaff team.

Through presenting getbaff at different european fairs, we gained a lot of valuable experiences. To be able to present getbaff at international fairs and give all of his dedication to getbaff, Hendrik cancelled his contract in the public service. Hendrik and Michael started their trip around the world searching for new customers.

We accomplished to present getbaff and our vision in such a convincing manner that we were accepted into the “Vodafone Uplift” start-up-program. Furthermore, we were able to acquire Ariel and Sea Shepherd as new customers.

The trio of Hendrik, Jan and Michael though, was still going strong. Nothing could break their will power and drive to make getbaff the next big thing in the world of AR.

With the first successful projects with customers like Unitymedia or Edeka, the first interested investors came along: a group from Business Angels from Düsseldorf invested a six-figure sum in getbaff. And then, 11. November 2019 was the day the getbaff GmbH came to life.
